Working For The California Boys

Representation
When representing The California Boys (aka TCB), it is essential to remember that you are acting on behalf of the company rather than as an individual. Accordingly, you are required to distribute only TCB cards and other designated marketing materials. Personal information, including your last name (this includes signatures), social media handles, and contact information, should not be shared. You are permitted to create your own signage, provided it adheres to the TCB style guide and exclusively features TCB-related info. TCB will supply you with marketing materials; should you require additional materials or need to replenish your supply, please reach out to Kara via email. It is imperative that TCB information is prominently displayed at all gigs.

Keep A Basic TCB Info Page In Your Kit
The best way to make sure you always have TCB information displayed and make sure you’re getting all your referrals is to have an information sheet like this one. You may add your first name and last initial to let everyone know who to ask for! Kara will provide one to you for no cost, just email her and let her know you need one.

The Dress Code
Here at TCB, we want to stay fun, but also dress to impress. Every event has its own preferred attire. Generally, you can dress pretty casual as long as you follow the guidelines below.
Gigs vs Shows
A “gig” is an event that is like a birthday party, family gathering, fundraiser, etc. which is usually paid by the hour. A “show” is a retail or “pay per face” event. A gig is more formal, and a show is more casual. Your attire should reflect the type of event you’re at.

Gigs
At gigs, you should dress more formally. Long pants (no leggings), TCB or black shirts, and closed toe shoes are all a must. Please try to dress in the TCB color scheme as best as possible! You can wear skirts or dresses as long as they’re long enough, or you’re wearing leggings or tights underneath. Make sure your shirts have sleeves and that your outfit doesn’t hinder you from working.

All Black
When in doubt – all black is the safest bet! And is preferred for more upscale events. Think galas, weddings, dances, etc. You can always add a little TCB touch with a TCB logo accessory.

TCB Shirts
A TCB shirt paired with black pants is the gold standard for almost all our events.

Other TCB Gear
Don’t be afraid to dress up your TCB wardrobe by wearing other colors from the TCB color scheme, accessorizing, or including some of our TCB merch.

*THE* Color Scheme
In a perfect world the team dresses in perfect harmony with the TCB color scheme.
The color scheme is:
Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green, Black, Tan, and White.
Shows
At shows, you can dress more casually and comfortably. Shorts, blue jeans, and opened toe shoes are all acceptable, but it’s still preferable for you to dress within the color scheme!

Beach Events
When you’re on the beach for any type of event – you don’t have to wear shoes! And shorts are encouraged!

TCB Merch & Other Accessories
We’ve got some cool branded accessories to complete your look! And we love to rock non-branded stuff in the TCB colors too.

Code Of Conduct
Having fun with a side of professionalism is *our thing* at TCB. We want every artist to thrive with us and to work effortlessly together all while impressing the clients.
To help all our artists stay on the same page, we’ve put together this “code of conduct”:
Booking Procedures
We follow industry standards when booking gigs:
- TCB will reach out to you about your availability for a gig.
- If you are available, confirm so with TCB.
- A verbal or written commitment is considered a confirmation, so please pencil in this date.
- If you haven’t heard back about a ‘penciled-in date’ within two weeks OR need to adjust your availability, contact Kara immediately.
- A verbal or written commitment is considered a confirmation, so please pencil in this date.
- Once the client has finalized their gig contract, we will send you an artist contract to complete. Please complete the contract as soon as possible.
- Complete the gig, following the work expectations seen below.
- TCB strives to pay the day of the event but will pay no later than two weeks after the event.
- Fill out this form to receive payment.
- If you do not receive pay, or communication about pay within the time frame above, please contact Kara immediately.
Work Expectations
We’ve already covered representation and dress code above, but there are a few more expectations while working with TCB:
Meeting Your Contract
- You are expected to show up at any event by yourself.
- You may not substitute yourself out with another artist.
- If you cannot make a confirmed or contracted gig, contact Kara immediately.
- You are expected to perform the service you are contracted to do. Ie: If you’re booked to do traditional face painting – do not do airbrush face painting. If you’re booked to do black & white caricatures – do not do color caricatures.
- Pay Rate
- Your rate is what you have been contracted for. Any rate changes must be confirmed by TCB.
- Fees for travel, parking, etc., will not be approved unless included in your contract.
- Overtime must be discussed with Kara and the client before it is approved. Do not go overtime unless it has been approved.
- Accepting Payments:
- At Gigs:
- Never accept a payment at a gig from the client UNLESS it is a check made out to The California Boys.
- Any other form of payment at a gig must be submitted via their online payment portal in the client’s contract or to Kara directly.
- Never accept cash as payment at a gig.
- You may not sell anything at a gig. You are only to provide the products and services you have been contracted for.
- At Shows:
- You are expected to use the cash drawer assigned to you.
- You must record your sales using the Token System or the Square app.
- You may not pay yourself, someone else must verify and count your pay.
- At Gigs:
- Scheduled Time:
- Your contracted time is the time you’re being paid to entertain, thus all set up and tear down must be outside of your contracted time.
- You should expect to show up 30 minutes early to figure out parking, unload, find the client, and set up.
- Do not start early. Either tell the clients that you begin at your start time, or step away from your set up until start time.
- Do not tear down until your end time.
- If the client provides proof that you ended early without reason, your pay will be docked.
- If the event ends early due to scheduling changes, weather, or other acts outside of your control, let Kara know immediately.
- While not required, it is appreciated if you keep TCB in the loop with gig status. Consider…
- Let Kara know you leave for & arrive at your gig.
- Let Kara know when you’re completed the gig, and provide a brief update on how it went.
- Share any photos that might be used on an artist profile website page or social media.
- Accepting Tips:
- At Gigs:
- Soliciting tips (by a tip jar, displaying a qr code, or any other means) is not allowed.
- You are always allowed to accept a cash tip if offered.
- At Shows:
- Soliciting tips by a tip jar is highly recommended.
- There will be TCB payment information available for digital tipping. Do not give out your personal payment info for tips.
- You will receive 100% of any digital tips.
- Other:
- Some events are booked specifically with accepting tips in mind. Any special conditions, expectations, and/or signage will be discussed with TCB prior to the gig.
- At Gigs:
- At any point, you may be required to navigate a situation not outlined here. You are expected to use your best judgment to navigate these to best represent TCB, keeping both the requirements of the contract/event and customer satisfaction in mind. You are always welcome to contact Kara for work directions or advice.
